Coach Elizabeth Hughes

Assistant Coach | Hydra Aquatics

Coach Elizabeth Hughes brings over a decade of experience as both a swimmer and coach in Northern Virginia, with a strong emphasis on developmental instruction and a deep passion for youth mentorship. She is excited to help launch Hydra Aquatics and support swimmers of all levels in building skills, confidence, and a love for the sport.

Elizabeth’s swimming career began at Tuckahoe Swim Team, where she competed for 15 years and developed a strong connection to the local swim community. Her transition to coaching came naturally—she spent 7 seasons on deck at Tuckahoe Recreation Club, where she led swim lessons and supported swimmers of all abilities in mastering fundamental technique.

From 2021–2024, Elizabeth served as Head Coach of the Little Tigers program, a developmental group designed to bridge the gap between learn-to-swim and full team participation. She previously held the role of Assistant Head Coach, helping establish a fun, supportive training environment that introduced young swimmers to competition. Dozens of her athletes successfully progressed into team-level training through her guidance.

As part of the Hydra coaching staff, Elizabeth brings warmth, structure, and a passion for swimmer development. Her approach emphasizes consistency, water safety, and joy in the process—making her an ideal fit for families seeking a positive first step into competitive swimming.

"I love watching swimmers grow into themselves—both in the water and in who they’re becoming as people." —Coach Elizabeth
