Coach Kait Ortmayer

Founding Coach | Hydra Aquatics

Coach Kait Ortmayer brings a wealth of experience as both a competitive swimmer and youth swim coach, with deep roots in the Northern Virginia swimming community. As a passionate advocate for athlete development, Kait has worked with swimmers of all levels — from first-timers to state champions — focusing on technical progression, personal growth, and team unity.

Kait’s swimming career began at Arlington Forest Club, where she competed in the Northern Virginia Swimming League (NVSL) for 13 seasons. She trained year-round with York Swim Club and competed at the Sectionals level for six years. As a varsity swimmer and team captain at Yorktown High School, Kait was a three-time VHSL State Championship qualifier and a consistent top performer.

She continued her swimming career at the University of Mary Washington, where she specialized in sprint freestyle and butterfly. Kait was a four-year varsity athlete and team captain, earning top-8 finishes at the Capital Athletic Conference Championships throughout her collegiate career. She graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration and Data Analytics in 2019.

As a coach, Kait’s journey began in 2011 with Arlington Forest Club’s Mini Tigers group. She advanced to assistant coach from 2016 to 2018 and later served as head coach starting in 2020. Kait also coached for the Lou Sharp Competition Swim Clinic and joined York Swim Club in 2020, where she has been a core member of the coaching staff. At the high school level, Kait has helped guide the Yorktown girls’ swim team to five district titles, four regional championships, and four VHSL 6A state championships, along with a regional title on the boys’ side.
