Developmental Program Overview

Hydra Aquatics welcomes swimmers of all ages and abilities. Our Developmental Program is the starting point for athletes just beginning their swim journey—even if they’re not yet proficient in all four strokes.

Unlike many swim clubs, Hydra believes that every athlete deserves a chance to grow from wherever they begin. Whether your swimmer is brand new to the water or still mastering early technique, our coaches meet each athlete where they are and guide them toward their telos—their full potential. These groups emphasize water safety, fundamental skill development, social connection, and confidence-building, laying the foundation for lifelong progress.

Beginner (Ages 3–8)

ADM Level: 1 | Focus: Water Safety & Confidence

Our Beginner group helps swimmers develop essential comfort in the water through guided exploration and structured play. Athletes learn to submerge, float, kick, breathe rhythmically, and move independently—building confidence while forming friendships in a fun, nurturing environment.

In addition to motor skill development, we emphasize listening, patience, and positive group dynamics. This is the perfect first step for young swimmers and families just beginning their journey with the sport.

Stroke School 1 (SS1) – Ages 10 & Under

ADM Level: 1 | Focus: Freestyle & Backstroke Proficiency

SS1 is for swimmers who have completed Beginner or already show basic independence in the water. The group focuses on developing freestyle and backstroke technique while reinforcing foundational skills like body alignment, balance, breathing, and proper kick mechanics.

Swimmers start learning basic practice skills like lane etiquette and reading the pace clock—all within a fun, team-oriented space that emphasizes accountability, sportsmanship, and confidence.

Stroke School 2 (SS2) – Ages 7+

ADM Level: 1–2 | Focus: Four-Stroke Development & Competition Readiness

SS2 supports swimmers who are ready to take the next step and learn breaststroke and butterfly, while continuing to refine freestyle and backstroke. Technique becomes more detailed as we introduce starts, turns, and efficient transitions between strokes.

Swimmers are also taught early competitive skills and practice responsibility, including structured sets, circle swimming, and understanding how training builds into racing success. SS2 sets the stage for more advanced training groups in our Age Group or 8U programs.
